A small island two kilometers from the northwestern tip of Panay Island which is famous for its white sandy beaches and Western-style resorts. The island was closed to tourism by the government of the Philippines for a 6-month period in April 2018 for rehabilitation, renovation, and a co-ordinated clean-up to address strong environmental criticism the island had received. Boracay re-opened in October 2018 which a new set of guidelines which the hotels and resorts must follow.
White Beach, which stretches for 4 kilometers along the western shore of the island is lined bars and hotels with the D’Mall area of shops and restaurants around the middle. The other side of the island is less populated, but the waters here are ideal for water sports.
